visual organizations

visual hierarchy--will establish focal points based on their importance to the message thats being communicated.a crucial part of the design process is to establish an order of elements a visual structure to help the viewer absorb the info provided by the design

what do i want my viewer to look at first?

the grid- way of organizing content on a page using any combination of margins, glide lines , rows and columns

instituted by modernism can assist the audience by breaking info into manageable chunks and establishing relationships between text and images
a grid consists of a distinct set of alignment-based relationships that act as guides for distributing elements across a format

every design is different therefore every design will require a different grid structure one that addresses the particular elements within the design

a grid is used to help clarify the message being communicated and to unify the elements
simple- simplicity makes a logo design easily recognizable. good logos feature something unexpected or unique without being "overdrawn"

memorable-an effective logo design should be memorable which is achieved by keeping it simple yet appropriate

timeless-will yours stand the test of time will it still be effective in 10 20 or 50 years

versatile- an effective logo works across a variety of media and spplications. for this reason logos should be deigned in vector format to ensure that they scale to any size

appropriate-appropiate for its intended audience

four color process-tech for printing with full color

spot color- method of specifying and printing colors in which each color is printed color in which each color is printed with its own ink.spot color printing is effective when the printed matter contains only one to three different colors but it becomes more expensive

pantone matching system- a system every printer uses the pantone system

choose your color wisely!
colors plays an important roles in logo design color can illicit different feelings and emotions from the audience
interpretation of color may vary depending on age, gender, and cultural demographics so color should be careful
color also tend to follow trends, just like fashion, more conservative color palette
keep your color palette to two or three. too many colors will increase your cost!

combination marks- both text and a symbol icon

iconic/symbolic- more abstract and no text
wordmark/lettermark-only have text wordmark is the whole company name

visual organization

not directing the audience through a design is misdirecting them!
eye movement-the typical eye moves left to right and top to bottom
controlling eye movement within a composition is a matter of directing the natural scanning tendency of the viewers eyes
the eyes tends gravitate toward areas of complexity first. in pictures of people the eye is always attracted to the face and particularly the eye
light areas of a composition will attract the eye especially when adjacent to the dark area
diagonal lines and edges will guide eye movement
optical center-the spot where the human eye tends to enter the page. optical center is slightly above mathematical center and just to the left
it takes a compelling element to pull your eyes away from this spot
z pattern our visual pattern makes a sweep of the page generally in the shape of a z
effective page deign maps a viewers route through the information the designers objective is to lead the viewers eye to the important elements or information
dont use more then 2 fonts
make sure the 2 fonts complement each other
avoid all caps
choose the right font
dont over use fancy or complicated font
